Το προκλητικό δημοσίευμα της Hurriyet
Έδωσαν τα νησιά μας στους Τούρκους

Με τίτλο «Η Ευρώπη δίνει τα Δωδεκάνησα στην Τουρκία» πανηγυρίζει σήμερα με το πρωτοσέλιδό της η εφημερίδα «Χουριέτ». Η ιστορία είναι απίστευτη, αλλά καθ' όλα αληθινή. Πρίν από ένα μήνα, κατά την τακτική συνάντηση των πρέσβεων των χωρών μελών της Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωσης, μοιράστηκε ένας φάκελος με θέματα προς συζήτηση.

Ο πρέσβυς της Ελλάδας, Φώτης Ξυδάς, ανέσυρε από τον φάκελο ένα έγγραφο με έναν τυπωμένο χάρτη, στον οποίο απεικονίζονταν τα Δωδεκάνησα και η Μυτιλήνη με το ίδιο χρώμα με αυτό της Τουρκίας, ωσάν να αποτελούσαν τουρκικό έδαφος.
Ο κ. Ξυδάς διέκοψε την συζήτηση και απευθυνόμενος στον Εκπρόσωπο της Ένωσης στην Τουρκία, Μάρκ Πιερίνι, του είπε:
Επειδή έχω γεννηθεί στην Μυτιλήνη και δεν είμαι Τούρκος αλλά Έλληνας, και επειδή αυτός ο χάρτης δείχνει τα ελληνικά νησιά ως τουρκικά, παρακαλώ εξηγήστε μου τι συμβαίνει.

Ο επίσημος εκπρόσωπος της ΕΕ ζήτησε πίσω το χαρτί για να αντιληφθεί περί τίνος πρόκειται, αλλά ο Έλληνας διπλωμάτης αρνήθηκε να του το επιστρέψει με την φράση «Δεν πρόκειται να σας το επιστρέψω, διότι αυτό το χαρτί θα είναι κάποια στιγμή χρήσιμο». Προφανώς ο κ. Ξυδάς ήθελε να αποστείλει το έγγραφο στο Υπουργείο Εξωτερικών για περεταίρω ενέργειες.

Έναν μήνα μετά το συμβάν, οι εφημερίδες «Χουριέτ» και «Ζαμάν» δημοσιεύουν σήμερα τον χάρτη με τον τίτλο «Η Ευρώπη έδωσε τα Δωδεκάνησα στην Τουρκία», πανηγυρίζοντας προφανώς με την ανοησία και την επιπολαιότητα των ευρωπαϊκών υπηρεσιών και προσωπικά της επίσημης ευρωπαϊκής αντιπροσωπείας στην Άγκυρα.

Το ελληνικό Υπουργείο Εξωτερικών ζήτησε εξηγήσεις, αλλά το ζήτημα δεν έλαβε διαστάσεις. Το ερώτημα, ωστόσο, που ετέθη και από διπλωματικούς κύκλους είναι το πώς θα αντιδρούσε η Μεγάλη Βρετανία, αν κάποιο επίσημο έγγραφο απεικόνιζε την Βόρειο Ιρλανδία ως έδαφος της Ιρλανδικής Δημοκρατίας ή τα ισπανικά Κανάρια νησιά με τα χρώματα του Μαρόκου ή τις Πορτογαλικές Αζόρες με άλλο χρώμα από εκείνο της Πορτογαλίας.

Μετά την έκρηξη ιλαρότητας, που προκάλεσε η είδηση της απόδρασης Παλαιοκώστα στον τουρκικό τύπο, και τα πρωτοσέλιδα με ανέκδοτα για το συμβάν στο Κορυδαλλό και σε εποχές που οι διμερείς σχέσεις δεν βαίνουν καθόλου θετικά, το νέο αυτό περιστατικό με αποκλειστικό υπεύθυνο τις ευρωπαϊκές υπηρεσίες έρχεται να προστεθεί στο σήριαλ όπου η Ελλάδα παρουσιάζεται εν είδει γελοιογραφίας.
Μέχρι στιγμής δεν έχει υπάρξει επίσημη ανακοίνωση του ελληνικού Υπουργείου Εξωτερικών για την προκλητική αμετροέπεια των ευρωπαϊκών υπηρεσιών και την προβοκατόρικη επιπολαιότητα του γραφειοκράτη εκπροσώπου της στην Άγκυρα, κ. Μάρκ Πιερίνι.

Turkish PM storms out of Davos' Gaza session, slams moderator

Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan stormed out of a heated debate on the Gaza war with Israel's President Shimon Peres at the Davos forum on Thursday. (UPDATED)

Erdogan said at a press conference after the incident that his reaction targeted the moderator who, he said, did not give him the floor to speak.

"My reaction here was towards the moderator. Such moderation will cast a shadow over peace efforts," Erdogan told reporters, adding the moderator gave each speaker around 12-15 minutes to speak but he allowed Peres to talk for 25 minutes.

Turkey harshly criticized Israel over its Gaza operation which left more than 1,300 people dead. The relations between Turkey and Israel, two countries who have close diplomatic and military ties, have been strained, experts say.

"I did not target at all in any way the Israeli people, President Peres or the Jewish people. On the contrary, during the panels I attended both at lunch and tonight, I specifically stressed that anti-Semitism is a crime against humanity," Erdogan added in the press conference.

The Secretary-General of the United Nations Ban Ki-Moon and the General Secretary of Arap League Amr Moussa had joined Erdogan and Peres in the session which was moderated by Washington Post columnist David Ignatius.


"DON'T THINK I WILL COME BACK"

"I do not think I will be coming back to Davos after this because you do not let me speak," Erdogan shouted before marching off the stage in front of the attendance and the audience.

During the joint press conference with the chairman of World Economic Forum Klaus Schwab, Erdogan said he will discuss the issue with Schwab when asked whether he will attend the future WEF meetings.

Although Peres has raised his voice during the session and targeted directly the Turkish Prime Minister, he did not raise his voice because of his respect, Erdogan said.


SESSION DISCUSSION

Erdogan criticized the audience for applauding Peres’s emotional defense of Israel's war in Gaza, before the moderator, insisted that the debate had gone overtime.

Erdogan said Israel had carried out "barbarian" actions in Gaza. "I find it very sad that people applaud what you have said because you know how to kill people," shouted Erdogan before he left. There was more applause when he left the stage.

Peres, a veteran Israeli statesman who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1994 for his efforts to reconcile with Yasser Arafat's Palestine Liberation Organization, had told the audience that Israel had been forced into the offensive against Hamas by thousands of rockets and mortars fired into Israel.

"The tragedy of Gaza is not Israel, it is Hamas," said Peres. "They created a dictatorship. A very dangerous one."

Ban, Erdogan, Moussa and Peres had all been sitting alongside each other for the debate.

All gave long impassioned statements on the conflict which left more than 1,300 Palestinians dead and widespread destruction in Gaza.

The U.N. secretary general had called on Israel to end its blockade of Gaza, again condemned the Israeli bombing of a U.N. base in the territory, and called for Hamas to end its violence for renewed Arab efforts to bring together divided Palestinian groups.

Moussa, who also strongly attacked Israel, said after the debate that Erdogan should have been given more time as "people are very emotional" when discussing the Middle East.

Report: "Greek-Turkish Navy Standoff Over Norwegian Survey Ship Ends-Official"

A standoff between a Greek and a Turkish navy ship in the Aegean over a Turkish-sponsored oil prospecting survey ended on Saturday after the operation was called off, Greek officials said.

A Norwegian survey ship commissioned by the Turkish government to conduct the search was departing after Greek officials complained to Norwegian and Turkish authorities, the Greek foreign ministry said.

"Under the international convention on the law of the sea, a large part of this area includes a continental shelf (seabed) belonging to Greece," foreign ministry spokesman George Koumoutsakos said in a statement.

The Norwegian ship, the Malene Ostervold, on Friday began prospecting for oil in the southeastern Aegean near the Greek island of Kastellorizo, escorted by the Turkish frigate Gediz, Koumoutsakos said.

A standoff ensued when a Greek gunboat was dispatched in the area to impress "that this sort of research requires permission from Greek authorities," the Greek general staff said.
The Malene Ostervold departed shortly after midnight after the Norwegian ambassador had been summoned by the Greek foreign ministry, but returned early on Saturday morning, the general staff said.

The incident ended after Greek Foreign Minister Dora Bakoyannis called her Norwegian counterpart Jonas Gahr Store, Koumoutsakos said.
